Come to Whitby by Rail:

From any Network Rail station (via Middlesbrough) on the scenic Esk Valley Railway.

From Pickering by steam (sometimes diesel) train on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

Come to Whitby by Bus:

From Middlesbrough or Scarborough with Arriva Buses number 5, 5A, X5 or 93, X93.

From Leeds and York (via Malton) with Yorkshire Coastliner Buses number 840.

Come to Whitby by Car:

From the South take the A64 from York to Malton, then the A169 via Pickering. From the North take the A19 to Middlesbrough, then the A171 via Guisborough.

Come to Whitby by Sea:

Newcastle is the port for the DFDS Ferry from Holland. Hull is the port for the P&O Ferries from Holland and from Belgium.

Come to Whitby by Air:

About 45 miles from Whitby to Durham Tees Valley Airport (Middlesbrough), which has a regular service from Amsterdam (Schipol) airport – very useful for visitors travelling from Northern Europe. About 80 miles from Whitby to Newcastle Airport. About 85 miles from Whitby to Leeds Bradford Airport.

Car Parking in Whitby

Car parking can be difficult in Whitby at busy times but North Yorkshire County Council opened a Whitby Park & Ride scheme in 2014 with parking meters along the seafront and Disc Parking throughout much of the town. For further information on Whitby Park & Ride please click here.

Alternatively, avoid the roads completely and travel by National Rails Esk Valley Line - from Middlesbrough, or the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (steam) from Pickering:
