More about The Granary Cottages

Granary Cottages offer a fabulous Yorkshire holiday experience. The cottages are located at Bannial Flatts Farm within the North York Moors National Park, just outside Whitby, originating from a sandstone barn which was formerly part of the Raithwaite Estate. The barn has been tastefully converted into three high quality eco-friendly cottages. They’re modern, contemporary and are beautifully decorated and if you have a large family holiday and wish to book all three cottages, 14 visitors can be accommodated in total. The three cottages are non-smoking and do not accept dogs.

Your hosts Paul and Jenny will be ready to greet you with a glass of wine or a welcome and refreshing cup of Yorkshire tea and delicious sweet local treats too, making you feel very much at home the moment you arrive.

Tiling throughout the ground floor of each open plan cottage benefits from the luxury of under-floor heating. All kitchens are spacious, fully fitted and well-equipped, ensuring you have all you need for an enjoyable home-from-home stay. The bathrooms are beautifully fitted and have showers over baths and have heated mirrors with lights and shaving sockets.

A lobby area with separate cloakroom/WC contains a handy coat cupboard which houses the vacuum cleaner, clothes airer, iron and ironing board. A large shared family-friendly garden is available with patio areas, picnic benches and outside lighting to enhance relaxing al fresco dining.

There’s so much to see and do when exploring Whitby and the area. With plenty of walking and cycling routes right from your cottage doorstep and loads of family-friendly pubs and tearooms dotted around the area and in Whitby too – so you’ll never be lost for things to do and for finding places to eat and drink. Whitby fish & chips are legendary and the ice cream is amazing. It’s only a 5 minute drive in to this extraordinary and wonderful coastal resort, which has plenty of car parks and loads of things to see and do. Watch the boats bobbling in the pretty, historic harbour. Climb the famous 199 steps to St. Mary’s Church and Whitby Abbey, stopping on the steps for some the opportunity to camera click some amazing panoramic shots of the town and harbour. It’s simply breath-taking. Wind your way around the quirky and wonderful shopping streets and discover the unique shops. Discover the beautiful blue flag beach, stretching from Whitby down to the pretty of village of Sandsend. Enjoy some time fossil hunting and discovering the rock pools. Further afield why not take a trip on board the fabulous North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway, which gives the opportunity to explore lots of pretty moorland villages along the line. There are many pretty heritage coastal villages too, such as Robin Hood’s Bay, Runswick Bay and Staithes.
