More about North Yorkshire Moors Railway
Take a memorable trip on board the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Enjoy a fun filled day packed with amazing scenery and vintage charm on one of the greatest heritage railways in the world. Step back in time to a bygone era and travel along the 24 miles of magnificent Yorkshire Countryside on one of our steam and heritage diesel trains.
Arrive at Pickering, our 1930s style station; explore all that this vibrant market town has to offer with its delightful historic attractions. Carry on to Levisham (the 1912 themed station). Hop off here and enjoy a picturesque scenic walk. About a mile away from here is Skelton Tower, boasting amazing views of the valley. A request stop: Newtondale Halt (not accessible by road) is a perfect base for spotting wildlife on a walk around the forest.
No trip on North Yorkshire Moors Railways would be complete with a stop at our ‘celebrity station’ in Goathland. This station served as the original ‘Hogsmeade’ Station from the famous ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’, as well as being used as part of the fictional moorland village of ‘Aidensfield’ in the 90s TV series 'Heartbeat'.
Enjoy some time at the 1950s-esque station of Grosmont where you may be lucky enough to sneak a peek behind the scenes. This station is the operating hub of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and where the locomotives are maintained and stored. Whitby is the last stop down the line and is an ideal place to step off the train and explore this amazing, unique and lovely town, which is home to wonderful folklore tales, a bustling harbour and offers plenty of choices for a fish & chip supper – making a perfect end to a perfect day!
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is a not-for-profit organisation, fully maintained and run by our committed team of amazing, hard-working volunteers. Each and every passenger that travels with us helps towards the running of one of the UK’s most historic and well-loved railway lines.
Services run every day from 24 March until 4 November, with special services put on throughout the year. It's certainly full steam ahead for fun! Visit www.nymr.co.uk for more details.
You'll also find great self-catering accommodation at either the cottage at Grosmont Station House, or within the unique Camping Coaches at Goathland and Levisham.
