Whitby boat tours

There are lots of Whitby boat tours that you can book yourself on to. You’ll see them all along the harbour and can buy a ticket then and there. Below are just two of the many trips you can take out into the North Sea.

Bark Endeavour (Captain Cook Experience)

The Bark Endeavour takes you on a trip back through history on a Captain Cook experience. Although only 40% of his ship’s original size, you’ll still be boarding an authentic replica of the ship Cook set sail in. Sing traditional sea shanties, learn about Cook, and discover a little more about our history as you sail around the Jurassic coastline on this Whitby town tour.

Whitby Coastal Cruises

These yellow boats keep fun affordable and cost only £3 per person for a 20-25 minute trip into Whitby bay. Fancy a longer trip? They offer a range of different experiences too, from a 3 hour coastal cruise over to Ravenscar and the seal colony there, to excursions to neighbouring coastal village Staithes, a trip inland up the River Esk, and even a whale watching trip in late July. These cruises are great for discovering more about Whitby, the local area and its wildlife.

Whitby walking tour

If you’d rather use your own two feet to tour the town, there are a number of walking tours you can join.

One of the most popular walking tours you can follow is Dr Crank’s ghost walk where you’ll learn all about the hauntings and mysteries of the own. Or, if you’re interested in learning a little more about the town’s connections to Bram Stoker’s Dracula, you can join Dr Crank for an informative and entertaining evening to learn about the character who has now become legend.

If you’re interested in a more exclusive tour, you can get in touch with the Whitby Storyteller and arrange a 75 minute private walking tour around the town. The Storyteller also runs regular ghost walks run around the town that you don’t have to book in advance. You’ll learn about the local folk law, stories of sailors and smuggling, tales of supernatural and strange occurrences and much more.
