Long-time Whitby lover Joe Huscroft got in touch with us to share his latest piece of poetry inspired by our charming seaside town. We thought it was so lovely we had to share it!
There is one seaside town with an abbey to boast
A little gem on the great Yorkshire coast
Fishermen’s cottages, old cobbled streets
Where you can buy jet and traditional sweets.
Captain Cook lived here, and it’s believed
Bram Stoker’s Dracula was here conceived.
There is a swing bridge that lets in tall ships
And boats you can charter for sea fishing trips.
Plenty of pubs and places to stay
Lots of small craft gently bobbing away.
There is now park and ride so you won’t need your car,
Plus the best fish and chips in this country by far!
We asked Joe to let us know which of the many fish and chip shops in town was his favourite – he couldn’t choose!
