1. See what’s on at Whitby Pavilion
There’s always something fun going on in the Whitby Pavilion. Whether it’s a special event, live entertainment, or even the latest film, you’re sure to find something fun while you shelter from the rain.
2. Captain Cook Memorial Museum
Visit the house that famous explorer Captain James Cook lodged and studied in during his apprenticeship in Whitby in 1746. You can see some of the letters he wrote, find out about the ships he sailed on and the discoveries he made, and lots more in the Captain Cook Memorial Museum.
3. Whitby Museum and Pannett Art Gallery

4. Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum
There’s a whole world underground waiting for you to discover it. The Ironstone Mining Museum is great fun for all the family and helps you explore the lives, skills and customs of the Cleveland miners.
5. The Moors National Park Centre
The Moors National Park Centre is a great day out no matter what the weather is doing. There are plenty of indoor activities to keep you entertained and when the skies clear up a little, you can head out doors and explore.
6. Eden Camp
Eden Camp transports you back in time to learn what life would have been like for soldiers in World War Two. It’s based on the grounds of an old Prisoner of War camp and offers a unique and interesting insight into history.
7. Whitby Galleries
Over 30 local artists display their work in the two Whitby galleries on Church Street. No two pieces have ever been made before, so you can wander around completely unique pieces of art while you wait for the weather to clear up. Who knows, you might even be inspired to purchase an item or two?
8. Treat yourself to a meal
You might not fancy fish and chips on the pier when it’s raining, so treat yourself to a delicious sit-down meal in one of the great eateries in Whitby. We’ve got delicious pubs, restaurants and cafes you can visit that serve all kinds of food.

9. Mini Monsterz
Mini Monsterz is perfect for keeping the kids entertained when it’s raining. It has a huge indoor play area with a climbing wall and some of the biggest slides in North Yorkshire as well as laser tag in the evening for both adults and children to enjoy.
10. Splash out in the shops
Here in Whitby, we’re really proud of all the independent shops that make up our town centre. While it’s raining, you can shelter inside and help support the local people who spend their time making beautiful jewellery, famous lucky ducks, delicious treats and more.
