Whitby Regatta Weekend

Saturday Aug 22nd, Sunday Aug 23rd and Monday Aug 25th

AT SEA:  Whitby Regatta is one of the oldest sea regattas in the country, with local lads and lasses taking part in rowing races along the bay from Sandsend or Upgang Ravine into the harbour. The finishing line is by the Lifeboat Pier. The races start around 18.30 to 19.45 between Wed 19th August and Friday 21st August and throughout the afternoons of Sat 22nd, Sun 23rd and Mon 24th August.

ON LAND:  During Sat 22nd Aug, Sun 23rd Aug and Mon 24th Aug there are events, displays and activities for all ages, centred on the West Cliff.  Among the many highlights of Regatta Weekend are the Raft Race in the Lower Harbour (15.30 Sat) and Regatta Sailpast and Lifeboat Launch (17.15 Sat); the Vintage Car Rally (11.00 Sun) and Tug-of-War Competitions (2.00 Sun); plus the Grand Parade (10.00 Mon) and Red Arrows Display (14.00 Mon). The festivities are brought to a close with the Grand Fireworks Display at about 21.45 on Monday evening.

Event times may vary slightly because of weather and sea conditions. Please buy a Regatta programme (cost £2) when you arrive in the town, to help keep this traditional event running.  The programme gives details of all the events taking place and also enters you into the Treasure Trail.  Each programme has a unique number - and if you spy that number displayed in a shop window around town, then enter the shop and claim your prize.

For more information, please visit the Regatta website here
