Celebrate the very best of the British countryside with ParkFest – the National Parks Week – ‘Spaces to Grow’. The venue is the North York Moors National Park Centre at Danby for a full day of walks, activities, live music, talks, and demonstrations from moorland crafts, woodland skills, sheep shearing, archery and a wide range of family activities. Find out from the Danelaw Living History Group about local dialect, songs and customs. Have a chat to the National Park officers about current and future projects.

Whitby & District Lions (5th) Annual Beer Festival will be held at Whitby Mission & Seafarers Centre, Haggersgate, Whitby. Doors will be open at 12.00 noon throughout the event and will close at 10pm (apart from Sunday when we close at 4pm). Over 30 beers and ciders will be available to sample. All money raised will go to various local charities. Locally produced food will be available throughout the Festival. Entry: £5 includes a commemorative Festival glass, program with tasting notes and one beer token.
This annual three day event offers lots of interesting things to see and do. Steam is definitely the theme at Pickering Show 2014 and ‘the famous line of Showmans Engines’ are on display with steam lorries, agricultural traction engines, fairground organs, steam tractors, miniature traction engines, and much more. Steam ploughing engines (now over 100 years old) will be in operation and displays of ploughing will be available at regular intervals throughout the event. Three-rack working saw-benches will be cutting up trees and five threshing sets will be driven by steam engines and vintage tractors. See the Ilson Stone Crushers road making display which shows you how it was all done in the 1950s. Held in the Showfield the main Arena attraction for 2014 is ‘The Royal Signals White Helmets’ Motor Cycle Display Team. Friday evening sees the Steam Road Run to Thornton-le-Dale. On the Saturday evening (1st August) steam and petrol Road Run – leaves the Rally Field at 6pm for an hour in Pickering Town and then back. Live Music with fantastic Fireworks Finale at dusk (around 9.30pm). Visit us over this long weekend, have a great time out and relive the golden age of steam.

The heart of the North York Moors National Park is now at the stage of turning purple. Come along to the Sutton Bank National Park Centre and spend the day admiring the magnificent views and discovering our amazing moorland heritage. The North York Moors National Park Rangers will be very happy to introduce you to their work and will inform you about matters from dry-stone walling to bee-keeping. The Danelaw Living History Group will bring the smells and sights of the Moors to life as they offer story-telling, craft-making sessions, food-making and even face painting. Something for all the family to enjoy.

This annual and popular Show (established in 1800) is the oldest surviving Gooseberry Show in the Country and is run each year by the Egton Bridge Old Gooseberry Society. The Show will be open to the public from 2pm and music will be playing in the afternoon. The prize-giving begins at 6.30pm. Come along and witness these giant gooseberries for yourselves – the largest gooseberry (2009 Show) weighed in at 35 drams (slightly larger than the size of a golf ball!).

Four days of super entertainment including rowing races, yacht racing and much more and finishing with prize presentations and a spectacular Fireworks Finale. Celebrating 170 years of aquatic competition, the Whitby Regatta is possibly the oldest Sea Regatta on the North East coastline. This annual event has become a firm calendar favourite and has drawn huge crowds of people in to Whitby and the area over many years. A not to be missed event!
