A major exhibition of striking new work from Peter Hicks who has a passion for the North York Moors and its changing beauty. This exhibition is inspired by the challenging weather of the dark summer of 2012, his work clearly depicting the moody and rich landscapes of the North York Moors. Peter works with a mixture of acrylics and mixed media. Your chance to meet the artist on Saturday 5 April (12.00 – 3.00) and on Wednesday 16 April there will be an Artist’s Lecture (2pm).

The two Sunday shows will start at 11am and then 2pm. Tickets are £10 (or £8 concessions). Call the Coliseum’s Box Office on 01947 825000 or 07751 246176.

At Scotch Corner Chapel, near Oldstead, there’s a rare opportunity to see inside this amazing ‘hidden gem’. Have a talk to the relatives of sculptor and artist John Bunting who built this chapel. Parking is available at Sutton Bank National Park Visitor Centre (only 1.5 miles from the Chapel). The site of this chapel is where the Battle of Byland took place in 1322.

Whitby Art Xhibitions and Richardson & Smith present The Great Xhibition which will be held at the West Cliff Saleroom, Silver Street, Whitby. Aiming to show there’s more to explore than the many wonderful images of the Abbey, beach huts, seagulls etc., Whitby Art Xhibitions (a group of local artists) are hosting their own ‘pop-up’ exhibition to showcase the wonderful arts scene and talents of artists in Whitby and the area and this Xhibition will reflect a cross between a Group Show and an Art Fair. The West Cliff Saleroom will be transformed into an art space offering cafe facilities with plenty of seating and to add to the atmosphere – relax with a hot drink, sit back and enjoy the music. Come along and meet some of the local artists and be inspired by their talented work.
